sword course
During the course, we will go through the most important types of swords: nihon-to, tsurugi, tachi, katana and ninja swords.
In the hands of Japanese warriors, the sword is more than just a tool – it is a symbol of power, honor and survival. Samurais and ninjas fought their battles with this for real, even if the battles were not always decided by the sword. In the warring eras, where warriors wore heavy armor (yoroi), the sword had a secondary role. But in the peace of the Edo period, the sword became the main weapon of the warrior - and that is what you will learn to master during the course.
In this course series, we will not only look at the legendary sword types of Japanese fighting, but you will also learn to use them. From the straight-bladed tsurugi (剣) to the curved tachi (太刀) and finally the legendary katana (刀), we cover it all. Short swords, daggers and the mysterious ninja sword are also on the table. These weapons aren't trinkets – they're tools that made men warriors, and now it's your turn to learn how to wield them.
The course of the training: you first get to know the basics of weapons through the written materials (densho) - stances, fighting stances and form exercises. But the learning doesn't stop there. After that comes cutting and dexterity exercises, where you not only learn movements, but also develop strength, speed and precision. Finally, you can test the acquired knowledge in controlled fights, where you can apply the practice to real situations.
