Stick introductory (B0) course
The purpose of the course is to master the precise movements of the long and short stick, the powerful stances, learn to attack and defend effectively - preparing you for real combat situations.
In Bujinkan, the Kukishinden ryu and Amatsu Tatara traditions preserve written techniques in stick fighting. It is a common mistake to start immediately with the more complicated katas (form exercises) during armed training, which only gives superficial knowledge. The technique becomes truly functional when we first master the basics, creating the necessary dynamics and precision behind the movements.
In everyday life, there are many objects that can be used as hanbo or rokushaku bo, whether it is a stick, pole, umbrella or other similar device. That is why it is extremely useful to learn stick fighting techniques for self-defense. In medieval Japan, wanderers who were forbidden to carry weapons used their walking sticks for self-defense, because they would have had little chance against robbers with their bare hands. A stick in your hand gives you a huge advantage when survival is at stake.
In the tradition of Kukishinden ryu, a warrior's halberd (naginata) blade was cut off in a battle, forcing him to use the bare staff to defeat his opponent and several armored warriors. This incident laid the foundation for the development of bo-jutsu, that is, the art of stick fighting. The warriors developed the technique of swinging the stick to such a high level that it proved effective even against armed and armored soldiers, proving that the stick can also be a deadly weapon in the right hands.
- The combat positions of the short and long stick,
- Strikes, stabs, and effective rotation of sticks can be performed from different positions in hanbo jutsu,
- Rokushaku bo Kihon Gata techniques.
